The Buffalo Bills are approaching the halfway point of training camp at St. John Fisher University before they move back to Orchard Park to finish their preparation for the upcoming season.

Over the past week and half, there has been plenty of news from Rochester but the question is which storylines are going to have an impact on the season? I make some predictions on some of the key stories so far for the Buffalo Bills.

Jordan Poyer’s injury

The Buffalo Bills have been dealing with injuries for most of training camp but most injuries haven’t appeared like they would impact the season. That was until Tuesday when Jordan Poyer suffered a hyperextended elbow during practice.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the injury likely will be a few weeks and while he is expected to be back before the regular season there is a chance he may miss some games.

How will this impact the regular season?

The good news is that Poyer has a good chance to be back by the regular season so in terms of impacts on the defense it should be minimal. The biggest positive, if there is one with Poyer’s injury, is that this opens up valuable practice and preseason reps for players like Jaquan Johnson and Damar Hamlin.

Both Poyer and Micah Hyde have been very durable over their time with the Buffalo Bills and this hasn’t given any of the backup safeties many opportunities to play in the regular season or with the first team during practice.

This should give the coaching staff a better understanding of where their depth is at the position and the confidence level in Johnson or Hamlin if Poyer or Hyde miss time during the regular season.
