When looking at the Buffalo Bills offensive line, one of the keys to their improvement this year is the potential development of Spencer Brown. After a promising rookie season, the hope is that he can take that next step and solidify the right tackle position.

On Wednesday, Dion Dawkins was asked about what he saw from Spencer Brown last year. The Bills starting left tackle is a great person to ask as he is an excellent tackle coming off a Pro Bowl season.

Dawkins was very complimentary of not only Spencer Brown but also Tommy Doyle, who was drafted a few rounds after Brown last year.

Spencer Brown, Tommy Doyle have ‘through the roof’ potential

While the question asked to Dawkins was about Spencer Brown, Dawkins made it a point to include Tommy Doyle and had this to say:

"“The number one thing that iIve seen about Spencer [Brown] is he’s a big guy but moves like a skill and even [Tommy] Doyle like they like they’re both one and one. People are talking about Spencer but Doyle is is just as great. I think that their potential is through the roof better than me, better than any tackle to ever touch the football field.”"

Last year, Spencer Brown would become the starter in Week 4 at right tackle and would finish the year with 10 starts. However, he did miss time during the season due to a back injury and then a few games after being placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list which could have impacted the way his rookie season went.

As for Tommy Doyle, he saw his role in this offense expand as the season went along and saw more snaps as a blocking tight end/sixth offensive lineman. He also caught a touchdown in the Wild Card game against the New England Patriots.

One of the reasons that Dawkins believes they could be great tackles is the way they move for players their size. Even though Brown and Doyle are very tall, both being 6’8″, they are very athletic. Prior to the NFL Draft, Brown received a perfect RAS score of 10, and ranked first among 1,143 offensive tackles, and Doyle had a RAS score of 9.9, which is 12th.

If Spencer Brown can take that next step as the starting right tackle and Tommy Doyle can step into that role as the swing backup tackle, it will really help solidify the offensive tackle position for the Buffalo Bills.
