Extending Knox could mean losing out on Gabriel Davis

As previously stated, I think Brandon Beane will have a hard time paying everybody. There is a scenario where Gabriel Davis has a massive breakout season this year, and he will enter next summer heading into the last year of his contract. Like Knox this year, he will be looking for an extension next offseason.

At this moment, Davis’s market doesn’t match the demand for Knox, but if he has the breakout season we are all predicting, his market will match or exceed the market for Knox. If it does come down to one or the other, it may be advantageous for Beane to wait until the next offseason so he can see what kind of a season Gabriel Davis puts together.

Deciding between a WR2 and a TE1 could be tricky. But as of right now, the WR2 market is more volatile than the market for a TE1. Especially when taking into account some contracts wide receivers signed this free agency, like Christian Kirk with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

So this decision should come down to how Davis looks on the field this year which is why it might benefit Brandon Beane to wait. Since Knox wants to be in Buffalo, Beane might have the luxury to wait it out as an agreement with Knox could likely still be reached next Spring.
