Last offseason, the Buffalo Bills drafted two offensive tackles in the 2021 NFL Draft when they selected Spencer Brown in the third round and Tommy Doyle in the fifth. Both were considered players with good physical attributes but might need time to develop into a spot where they could contribute.

However, for Spencer Brown that time wasn’t very long and by Week 4 he was the starting right tackle. While there is room for him to grow, he showed enough to warrant being the seventh-best player on the Buffalo Bills roster who is going to be 25 or under at the start of this season.

Spencer Brown would end up starting 10 regular season games after missing two due to a back injury and then after returning for the Jets game was inactive for two more games after being placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

The offensive line’s performance was up and down for most of the year but it was clear that when Brown was on the field they were better, particularly in run blocking. Last year, Brown finished the year as the fifth best offensive tackle in this area according to Pro Football Focus.

This season is expected to be a big year for Spencer Brown as he enters his second year in the NFL. He is almost guaranteed the starting right tackle spot as the Buffalo Bills seemed to bring in more players to be the backup versus competition to push him for the starting spot.

The Buffalo Bills hope this year that the offensive line will be better after signing Rodger Saffold at guard and bringing back Ryan Bates. However, the area that it might improve the most is at right tackle if Spencer Brown can continue to build on the promising rookie season.
