O.J. Howard
The Buffalo Bills made a notable addition at tight end this offseason by signing former first round pick O.J. Howard to pair with Dawson Knox, who is coming off a breakout year. While Howard hasn’t met the expectations he had coming out of college, the addition gives the coaching staff more flexibility with their play calling.
Last year, the Bills had Tommy Sweeney as the backup to Dawson Knox but with Howard now being that number two tight end, it gives the coaching staff more options and the personnel to run more two-tight end sets.
Unfortunately, Howard has some questions coming out of minicamp as The Athletic’s Joe Buscaglia noted that he looked slow in his routes during practice. This could be due to a few different reasons as he is trying to learn a new offense, get familiar with a new quarterback or he could still be dealing with lingering effects from a torn Achilles in 2020.
Regardless of the reason, this is going to be an important few weeks for O.J. Howard and whether or not he is able to show enough to give the team confidence that he can be a factor this season.
