AFC Predictions: AFC West

1st: Los Angeles Chargers

2nd: Kansas City Chiefs

3rd: Denver Broncos

4th: Las Vegas Raiders

The AFC North would be the toughest division in the league if it wasn’t for the AFC West. In a division that has been run by the Kansas City Chiefs, who has won the division six straight years, this year it looks much more competitive.

The Chargers, Broncos and Raiders all made big offseason moves to try and close the gap and the Los Angeles Chargers were the one team that looks to be in the best position to end the Chiefs division title run. They have one of the top quarterbacks in the league in Justin Herbert and now have a defense to match that talent with the additions of Khalil Mack and J.C. Jackson.

Even if the Chiefs don’t win the AFC West, they are likely to be in the discussion right up until the final week of the regular season. They did lose Tyreek Hill and Tyrann Mathieu this offseason but they had an impressive draft with the selections of players like Skyy Moore, Trent McDuffie, George Karlaftis, and Leo Chenal that should all be factors as rookies. It is also impossible to count out a team with Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes.

The Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders made key moves as well after trading for Russell Wilson and Davante Adams respectively. Both teams have the talent to be playoff teams or even division winners, but the margin of error in a division like this is very small. The reason that the Chargers and Chiefs are ranked ahead of them is due to both teams having new head coaches this year with Nathaniel Hackett and Josh McDaniels.

In these AFC predictions, that unknown moves them down to the bottom half of the AFC West but again it would not be surprising to see any of these four teams win the division.
