The Buffalo Bills had the number one defense last year and over the offseason made some notable changes that on paper look to have improved the defense entering this season. Similar to the offensive side of the ball, there really is only one starting job up for grabs during training camp but there are notable position battles further down the depth chart.

These are the top training camp battles to watch for the Buffalo Bills during training camp which is set to start this week.

The only starting job expected to be available at the start of training camp is at cornerback opposite Tre’Davious White. The Bills did not bring back Levi Wallace this offseason, who signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a free agent, but did draft Kaiir Elam in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

The former Florida Gators cornerback is expected to compete with Dane Jackson, who was the starter at the end of the season in place of the injured Tre’Davious White. He played well at the end of the season and is one of the reasons that it is not a guarantee that Elam wins this battle even though he was the Bills’ top draft pick.

However, in the end, there is a chance that both are the starters at cornerback to open the season if Tre’Davious White is not ready to return from the torn ACL he suffered against the New Orleans Saints. This question should be answered early in training camp depending on how much he is able to participate.
