Over the past two years, Reggie Gilliam is one of those players that seems to go fly under the radar but impacts the success of the Buffalo Bills in a multitude of ways. This is why he ranks 12th in these rankings looking at the Top 25 players on the Buffalo Bills who are 25 or under entering the 2022 season.

He joined the Bills in 2020 as an undrafted free agent and was a surprise addition to the 53-man roster as he would take veteran Patrick DiMarco’s spot.

Over the past two years, Reggie Gilliam has settled into a role where he is the team’s fullback, which is a position that isn’t frequently used, in addition to the emergency or third tight end. The presence of Gilliam allows the Buffalo Bills to have only Dawson Knox and Tommy Sweeney on the roster and free up a roster spot for another position.

This past season he had three receptions, 23 receiving yards, three rushing attempts, and three rushing yards.

Reggie Gilliam makes most of his impact on special teams for the Buffalo Bills

However, most of the impact has been on special teams. In his rookie season, Gilliam played 49% of the special teams’ snaps and that percentage jumped to 77% last season as he had 315 snaps, which was the second-highest total.

His presence on special teams is not much of a surprise because this is where he played most at the University of Toledo when he had six blocked kicks, including four in one season. That led the country and set a single-school record.

Entering this season, Gilliam once again should be a big part of the special teams as he searches for his first career block kick in the NFL. He is unlikely to see an expanded role on offense, especially with the addition of O.J. Howard, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him see some snaps at some point in the season.
