The Buffalo Bills were busy this offseason improving the roster with the moves they made in free agency and the NFL Draft. The roster should be better with the addition of players like Von Miller, Jamison Crowder, Kaiir Elam, and James Cook because of the simple fact they are talented football players.

However, there is a secondary effect with some of these moves.

This is a team sport so some of the moves made this offseason should help some of the players who were already on the roster to potentially have the best season of their careers.

Which players from last year’s Buffalo Bills team benefit the most from the offseason moves?

The Buffalo Bills almost completely changed their defensive tackle position by signing three free agents at the position. They would sign DaQuan Jones, Tim Settle Jr., and bring back former starter Jordan Phillips.

These three players should help 2019 first round pick Ed Oliver as he enters an important year in his career. The Bills picked up his fifth-year option this offseason so he is under contract with the team through the 2023 season but next offseason is likely the first time both sides will begin serious discussions on a long-term contract.

That means his performance this year could be a big deciding factor on what the contract might look like. Fortunately for Oliver, the addition of some bigger defensive tackles, notably DaQuan Jones, can set up Oliver to do what he does best.

That is to use his speed and quickness to penetrate and make plays behind the line of scrimmage. However, he needs a bigger one-tech next to him that can eat up space and give Oliver some more winnable matchups.

Ed Oliver had one of the best seasons of his career last year and could be even better this season with the addition of players like DaQuan Jones.
