6 role players on the Buffalo Bills fighting for a contract extension in 2022
The Buffalo Bills have been one of the best teams in the NFL over the past two seasons and look to be a serious Super Bowl contender this year.
While they are in this position due to players like Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs, Jordan Poyer, and Micah Hyde, who are some of the best at their position, they are in the discussion because of some players who may be a backup or play a specific role and do a very good job.
Over the years, the front office has shown they value players like this and are willing to sign them to extensions, like Siran Neal this offseason. On the depth chart, he is a backup defensive back but is a key part of their special teams and was one of the reasons the Bills signed him to a three-year extension.
The Buffalo Bills have a number of starters who could be in line for contract extensions but these are six role players that will be trying to make the case that they deserve an extension as well.

Tyrel Dodson
Tyrel Dodson has already gone through this last year as he was entering the final year of his contract and was an exclusive rights free agent this offseason. The Bills re-signed him to a one-year deal and this offseason is set to be a restricted free agent.
For the past two seasons, Dodson has been primarily a special teams player playing 49% or more special teams snaps each season. However, this year Dodson could have a bigger role on defense as he will be competing with Terrel Bernard for A.J. Klein’s role as the third linebacker, a role that isn’t a starter but could have him playing roughly 30% of the defensive snaps this year.
If Dodson continues to be a key part of the special teams unit while stepping into Klein’s role he would have a good chance of earning a multi-year extension after the season.
