. . . New England Patriots. 3. team. 47

Kyle Dugger, Devin McCourty

The New England Patriots are a tough team to rank because their strength really lies in their depth. While Kyle Dugger and Devin McCourty are likely the starters, they also have Jabrill Peppers and Adrian Phillips, two veterans that will almost certainly have roles in the Patriots’ defense this season.

McCourty has been a starter for the Patriots since 2010 when he was drafted in the first round. He started his career as a cornerback before moving to safety. In the last three years, he has seen his tackle numbers decrease but he has done an excellent job in coverage with 10 interceptions and 23 passes defended during that stretch.

He is joined by Kyle Dugger, who was a second round pick in 2020 and had a breakout season last year for New England. Dugger would finish the year with 92 total tackles and four interceptions in 13 starts.

Even if Kyle Dugger improves off his performance last year, which is possible, it is hard to imagine they move up these rankings with how good these next two safety duos are.
