Cody Ford is the next player on these Top 25 Buffalo Bills 25 and under rankings was someone who had a promising rookie season but has struggled since. The Bills drafted Ford in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft after they traded up to have the chance to draft the former University of Oklahoma lineman.
As a rookie, Cody Ford would start 15 of 16 games at right tackle but split time early in that season with Ty Nsekhe. However, by the end of the year he was playing every snap and playing pretty well.
After that season, the Bills signed Daryl Williams to compete with Ford, and the former Carolina Panthers’ tackle would win the job and force Cody Ford inside to guard. In theory, this was supposed to be the best-case scenario because it seemed Ford’s best position was at guard.
He would start the first seven games before suffering a knee injury that ended his season.
This injury has seemingly had a big impact on Ford’s production and role with the team. Last year, he started the year as the team’s starting guard but struggled and was benched after three games. He would get a few more starts during the course of the year but struggled in each of those games and didn’t show enough to regain the starting spot.
Can Cody Ford make the 53-man roster for the Buffalo Bills?
The reason that Cody Ford is ranked 24th in these rankings and behind some other players who are more inexperienced is due to the fact that the Bills may have seen the best Ford has to offer.
This is why Cody Ford may have already played his final game with the Buffalo Bills. He is entering the final year of his rookie contract and the depth the team has on the offensive line puts Ford on the bubble.
If he has a strong training camp and preseason, he certainly can be one of the top backup offensive linemen but he is far from a roster lock this year.
