While Olaijah Griffin is one spot ahead of Nick McCloud, the margin between these two is very small for these rankings of the Top 25 Buffalo Bills who are 25 or under. Olaijah Griffin was signed as an undrafted free agent last year after three seasons at USC where had 67 total tackles, one interception, and 13 passes defended.
Griffin was on the Bills’ roster through training camp and preseason, playing in all three games and had four total tackles and one tackle for a loss during that stretch. While he didn’t make the final roster, he was brought back as a member of the practice squad.
After the season, the Bills saw enough to sign him to a two-year futures contract according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
What role will Olaijah Griffin have with the Buffalo Bills in 2022?
The Buffalo Bills have plenty of question marks at the end of their depth chart at cornerback which gives Griffin a good chance to make the 53-man roster this season.
After Tre’Davious White, Kaiir Elam, Taron Johnson, Siran Neal, and Dane Jackson it’s going to be an open competition with players like Griffin, McCloud, Cam Lewis, and sixth-round draft pick Christian Benford competing for one, possibly two spots.
The biggest question for Griffin is whether or not he has been able to add some weight and muscle over the past year. The scouting report from last year on NFL.com describes a player that has upside but had a slender frame and an injury history.
If he was able to add some mass, it could help in press coverage, run support and hopefully limit injuries moving forward. It will be worth watching in preseason and practice how he matches up in these areas and that could be the deciding factor for whether or not he makes the Buffalo Bills’ 53-man roster this year.
However, if Griffin doesn’t make the roster he should at least have a spot back on the practice squad for this year.
