While the players on the field and the coaching staff on the sideline deserve a great deal of credit for what the Buffalo Bills have been able to accomplish over the past few years, they likely aren’t in this position without general manager Brandon Beane and the front office.

The Bills named Sean McDermott as their head coach in early 2017 and a few months later brought in Brandon Beane, who McDermott knew from their time together with the Carolina Panthers, as the new general manager.

At the time, the Bills were struggling on the field and were dealing with a less than ideal salary cap situation. Since stepping into the role, Beane was able to improve the Bills’ cap situation and then drastically improve the talent on the roster by drafting players like Josh Allen, Tremaine Edmunds, Dawson Knox, Ed Oliver, and Gabriel Davis while also trading for Stefon Diggs.

The product on the field speaks for itself and is why it isn’t surprising to see Pro Football Network rank Brandon Beane and the Bills’ front office as the best in the NFL.

"Alongside head coach Sean McDermott, Beane spent the past five seasons turning the Bills into the preeminent franchise in the NFL. Although they’ve yet to capture a Super Bowl trophy, Buffalo’s decision-makers are the most astute in the league."

In addition to all the success the Buffalo Bills have had in the NFL Draft, free agency and trades like the one for Stefon Diggs, another potentially overlooked aspect is Brandon Beane’s ability to retain the top talent.

It is one thing to draft players like Josh Allen, Dion Dawkins, and Tre’Davious White (who was drafted before Beane joined the team) but it is another to make sure those players don’t leave. In the past three offseasons he has been able to reach long-term extensions with those three players along with Stefon Diggs, Jordan Poyer, and Micah Hyde.
