Entering the 2022 season, one of the top cornerback duos in the AFC East belongs to the Miami Dolphins. One half of that duo is Byron Jones, who signed as a free agent in 2020 after five seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.
During his time with the Cowboys, Jones looked like he was a cornerback on the rise. He didn’t have any interceptions in his final two seasons in Dallas but had 20 passes defended. When quarterbacks threw his direction he allowed a QB rating of under 90 each season and completed less than 55% of their passes.
That success hasn’t translated to Miami yet and in his two seasons with the Dolphins, quarterbacks have a completion percentage over 60%, thrown nine touchdowns with Jones in coverage and the QB rating has been above 100 each season.
The talent is certainly still there and he can have a bounce-back year this season but he hasn’t had enough success the past two years to warrant being higher than fourth in the AFC East.
