At this point of the offseason, the Buffalo Bills front office is evaluating their roster and trying to find those few remaining areas that they could improve before the start of training camp next month.

While the starters on both sides of the ball look set, or there is at least good competition to find a starter, there are a few spots on the roster where depth could be a concern. One of those is the backup linebacker position.

The Bills know their starters are Matt Milano and Tremaine Edmunds but after these two the depth is inexperienced with players like Tyrel Dodson, Marquel Lee, Tyler Matakevich, and rookies Terrel Bernard and Baylon Spector.

This could motivate general manager Brandon Beane to add a veteran to backup Edmunds and Milano in case either is forced to miss an extended period of time at any point this season. These are five linebackers that they could consider, starting with a player who was recently on the roster.

The Buffalo Bills released A.J. Klein earlier this offseason to create some additional cap space but among the linebackers, a return of Klein could make the most sense. The veteran linebacker spent the past two seasons with the Bills and prior to that played a number of years in Sean McDermott’s defense with the Carolina Panthers.

While he may not be as athletic as Milano and Edmunds, he has played well when given the chance during his time in Buffalo. He is an excellent option to add as he could be the backup to both Milano and Edmunds and even be that third linebacker when the team wants to play in a 4-3 defense.
