Running Backs (5)

Devin Singletary, James Cook, Zack Moss, Taiwan Jones, Reggie Gilliam (FB)

The running back position is interesting and the Bills should have five on the 53-man roster with four players looking like they are going to be on the roster. It starts with Devin Singletary, who should be the lead running back, and he will be paired with James Cook, who will be more of a receiving back this season.

As for Taiwan Jones and Reggie Gilliam, they are primarily special teams players but are key parts of that unit and their spots on the roster should also be pretty much set.

This leaves one final spot on the regular season roster for either Zack Moss or Duke Johnson. Initially, it was Duke Johnson getting that spot but at this point, I would lean towards Moss. The reason is that James Cook looked excellent during the minicamp and appears ready to step into that receiving back role immediately.

If he struggled, it would have made sense for the coaching staff to consider a veteran like Duke Johnson to play that role. Since that won’t be necessarily, the Bills should keep Moss and hope this is the year he really takes a step forward as a third option in this backfield.
