The Buffalo Bills over the years typically haven’t gotten a lot of production from the tight end position. However, that changed last season with Dawson Knox breaking out and finishing the year with nine touchdowns, which was tied for the league lead at the position.

In addition to Knox, the AFC East has a number of other talented tight ends and this was one of the more competitive positions to rank. The depth at the position for each team played a bigger role than some of the other rankings.

Where do the Buffalo Bills’ tight ends rank in the AFC East this upcoming season?

Tight Ends: Mike Gesicki, Durham Smythe, Hunter Long

Starting off the rankings is the Miami Dolphins and this is a perfect example where they have an excellent starter but the depth after him moves the Dolphins down to fourth in the division.

Mike Gesicki has been a productive tight end the past three seasons with at least 50 receptions and 500 receiving yards. This past season was by far his best as he had 73 receptions, 780 receiving yards, and two touchdowns.

After Gesicki is Durham Smythe, who was a fourth round pick by the Dolphins in 2018 and does a good job as that second tight end that does a number of things well from blocking to being a receiver but nothing great.

One player to watch at this position for the Dolphins is Hunter Long, who was drafted in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He had a quiet rookie season with only one reception and three targets but if he emerges as the second tight end, it could move Miami up the rankings.
