More position battles on special teams

Some other key position battles to watch during minicamp are on special teams, most notably the punter position. The Bills drafted Matt Araiza in the sixth round and had one of the strongest legs at his position in this year’s draft class.

He has certainly shown that up to this point during OTAs and has an advantage over the veteran Matt Haack in this department. However, where Araiza has ground to make up is holding for Tyler Bass on field goal attempts.

This is an area Haack excels in and could be the deciding factor in who wins the job this summer.

In addition to the punter position, the Bills are seemingly holding an open competition for who wins the kickoff and punt return jobs with no clear favorite at this time. The Bills still have players like Isaiah McKenzie, Marquez Stevenson, and Micah Hyde (who all returned punts at times last year) while also adding players like Raheem Blackshear and recently Tavon Austin.

Similar to the slot receiver, this is not a position that is likely going to be won during minicamp but if someone has a strong week of practice they could go into training camp as the favorite.
