There is no clear favorite within the AFC East at the running back position, unlike the quarterback position. Every team, including the Buffalo Bills, could make a case for having the best group of running backs in the division.

This is a position where having the best running back is essential but depth is also critical as teams move more to a running back by committee. These rankings for the AFC East take both factors into account when determining which team has the best group entering 2022.

4. team. 30. . . . New York Jets

Running Backs: Breece Hall, Michael Carter, Tevin Coleman

There is a strong possibility that this time next year the New York Jets are in the number one spot. Breece Hall was considered one of the best running backs in the entire 2022 NFL Draft class and it wouldn’t be surprising for him to be the best running back in the AFC East after this season.

Hall is an excellent all-around running back and in three seasons at Iowa State had nearly 4,000 rushing yards, 750 receiving yards, and 56 total touchdowns. He should see a majority of the work this season and be a big help to the Jets’ offense.

He is joined by Michael Carter, who was a second round pick by New York last season. He is an explosive running back that is the most effective as a pass-catcher out of the backfield. Last season, Carter had 36 receptions on 55 targets with also over 600 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

The Jets certainly have the most promising backfield but for now, they are ranked at the bottom of the AFC East.
