Ranking the AFC East QBs behind Buffalo Bills’ QB Josh Allen entering 2022

For the third straight season, there is no debate that the Buffalo Bills have the best quarterback in the division with Josh Allen. This certainly is not something that can be taken for granted and there is a case to be made that the Bills have never been in this situation.

Prior to Josh Allen’s breakout season in 2020, it was Tom Brady with the Patriots that held that honor for two decades. Even when the Bills had Jim Kelly, who is one of the best QBs in franchise history, the Miami Dolphins had Dan Marino and there isn’t a clear favorite between those two.

While the Buffalo Bills have a clear advantage, where does the rest of the quarterbacks in the AFC East rank heading into the 2022 season?

Starting off the rankings is Zach Wilson, who was the second overall pick last year by the New York Jets. He struggled his rookie season as the Jets would go 3-10 in his 13 starts. He would finish completing only 56% of his passes with 2,334 passing yards, 13 total touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

The rookie season certainly had its fair share of challenges from missing four games in the middle of the season due to an injury. He also was without Corey Davis, who was a big free agent signing last offseason and expected to be their number one wide receiver, for a large portion of the season.

However, this offseason, the Jets did a good job of adding more playmakers around Wilson in Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson, and C.J. Uzomah. It will be interesting to see if he takes that next step with these new additions but for now, entering this season, he ranks fourth among starting QBs in the division.
