The Buffalo Bills claim the top spot in Peter King’s annual power rankings but this may not be a good thing

With free agency and the NFL Draft now over, more and more power rankings will start to come out leading up to the 2022 season, which will be kicked off by the Buffalo Bills as they take on the Los Angeles Rams.

Recently, Peter King with Football Morning in America put together his annual power rankings and had the Buffalo Bills in the top spot. This isn’t necessarily a surprise as the Bills are one of the best teams in the NFL and should be a popular choice this offseason.

However, King has a disclaimer at the top of his power rankings that he didn’t do a very good job last season and he wrote that he is out to “avenge his C- from last year“.

Buffalo Bills move up two spots from last year in Peter King’s rankings

Last year, King ranked the Buffalo Bills third, which was one of the teams he got right. This year he moved them up two spots to being number one in the league.

"The Bills had the best margin of victory in the league last year, scored 83 points in two playoff games, and made a couple of big bets to bolster a good but not great defense in the offseason—signing 33-year-old Von Miller to a deal with $45-million fully guaranteed at signing and drafting corner Kaiir Elam, who will need to play right away with the Bills facing Matthew Stafford, Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers in their first seven games."

As King notes, the defense is probably the side of the ball the Buffalo Bills improved the most this offseason but they are certainly going to be tested early. The secondary has plenty of question marks and is one of the reasons I thought they should sign a veteran cornerback, however an improved pass rush with the addition of Von Miller and hopefully the development of Greg Rousseau should be a big help.

The final paragraph by King on the Buffalo Bills is an interesting one and certainly is a message that Sean McDermott must emphasize this season:

"One bit of caution: Playing at home in the playoffs is a big edge in Buffalo, so coach Sean McDermott’s mantra, even with a comfy lead late in the AFC East, must be No weeks off."

The AFC is going to be very tough this year and having home field advantage is a big edge this season. The Bills saw it last year as one loss, like the game against the Titans or even against the Jaguars, which cost them home field advantage and potentially a trip to the Super Bowl.
