Buffalo Bills Position of Concern: Returners

The final position is not one that is often talked about but for the Buffalo Bills they don’t have a clear answer entering OTAs. They struggled last year to replace Andre Roberts, who was a Pro Bowler each of the two years he was with the team.

The Bills started the year with Isaiah McKenzie but he struggled, particularly with ball security, and made a switch to rookie Marquez Stevenson. However, Stevenson also struggled on punt returns securing the ball and in the playoffs elected to go with Micah Hyde, who only had four punt returns in 2019 and 2020.

Those three players are back and will be competing for both the starting punt return job but also as the starting kickoff returner. They will be joined by Khalil Shakir, the team’s fifth round pick, and undrafted free agent Malik Williams.

The Buffalo Bills hopefully will find a clear option coming out of OTAs but this is another position that it wouldn’t be surprising to see them add a free agent or two before the starting of training camp.
