Buffalo Bills Undrafted Free Agent Profile: WR Neil Pau’u
Neil Pau’u was one of the nine players the Buffalo Bills signed as undrafted free agents prior to their rookie minicamp last weekend. Let’s take a closer look at the big wide receiver and what he might need to do to make the 53-man roster.
Stats/Measurables
Height: 6’4″
Weight: 215 pounds
Neil Pau’u played four seasons at Brigham Young University (BYU) and had a limited role his first two years there. He had 32 receptions, 355 receiving yards, and three touchdowns in total during that stretch.
In 2020, during Zach Wilson’s breakout season with BYU, he became a bigger part of the offense and had 45 receptions, 603 receiving yards, and four receiving touchdowns. This past season, Pau’u remained a big part of the offense and had 46 receptions (which led the team), 526 receiving yards, and six touchdowns.
What does Neil Pau’u bring to the Buffalo Bills?
The most notable thing Neil Pau’u would bring is size to the wide receiver position as he is 6’4″, which would be tied for the tallest wide receiver on the roster with Jake Kumerow, and 215 pounds. While the Buffalo Bills don’t have the biggest wide receiver group and Pau’u could bring that, he will have a tough time cracking the 53-man roster this year.
The wide receiver position is one that is pretty well set with Stefon Diggs, Gabriel Davis, Jamison Crowder, and Isaiah McKenzie at the top of the depth chart. They also drafted Khalil Shakir in the fifth round and he will likely earn that fifth spot which leaves one spot up for grabs.
This final spot will likely go to a wide receiver that can contribute more to this team past just being a wide receiver. This usually comes on special teams and a player like Jake Kumerow, who has been a big part of the special teams unit, or Marquez Stevenson, who could win the return job, would be the player most likely to fill that final spot.
