One of the reasons for the Buffalo Bills’ playoff drought was they struggled to find good players during the NFL Draft, even though they were consistently picking in or near the Top 10.

However, one player who looked to be on his way to being a key part of the franchise was defensive tackle Marcell Dareus. The Bills drafted Dareus with the third overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, one pick after Von Miller, who the Buffalo Bills signed this offseason as a free agent.

Dareus showed promise early in his career and would make back-to-back Pro Bowls in 2013 and 2014 as well as being named to the first-team All-Pro in 2014.

He looked to be a player on the rise and the team made sure he wouldn’t get away by signing him to a six-year contract extension early in the 2015 season, which included $60 million guaranteed. At the time, it was the most guaranteed for a player who didn’t play the quarterback position.

However, after that extension, Dareus struggled to return to the same level of production, and midway through the 2017 season, Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane’s first with the Buffalo Bills, they traded him to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The former first round pick would last two more seasons after that year with Jacksonville and hasn’t played a regular season game since the 2019 season.

Former Buffalo Bills’ defensive tackle Marcell Dareus reportedly trying to make a comeback

After two seasons out of the NFL, Dareus appears ready to make a comeback and is participating at the Baltimore Ravens minicamp this weekend, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic.

If there is a team for Marcell Dareus to try and make a comeback with, the Baltimore Ravens would arguably be one of the best spots. They are a team that has consistently been known for having a great defense and Dareus would be joining a talented group if he was able to earn a roster spot.
