Buffalo Bills Loser: Matt Haack

This is a move that was expected but now that it is confirmed, Matt Haack will have an uphill climb to remain with the Buffalo Bills this upcoming season.

The punter position was one of those that seemed like an obvious area for the Buffalo Bills to target considering they didn’t have many weaknesses and using a late round pick made sense.

The team ended up doing just that by drafting Matt Araiza out of San Diego State University. He had an excellent year last season with a punt average of over 50 yards.

However, this role isn’t just about punting and if there is one area in that Haack has an advantage it is as a holder. Beane talked specifically about this after the NFL Draft and according to Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic described Haack as an ‘elite holder’.

It is going to be an interesting training camp battle and while Araiza would seem to be the favorite, he will need to show he can match Haack’s performance as a holder.
