With the first pick in the sixth round, the 180th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills select San Diego State University’s punter Matt Araiza.

The Buffalo Bills select Matt Araiza aka the “Punt God” at pick No. 180

Given the nickname “Punt God,” Matt Araiza made a giant splash in the NFL Media world as being one of — if not the— the best punters in the draft.

That being said, he was the third punter drafted behind Jordan Stout from Penn State and Jake Camarda from the University of Georgia.

Given Araiza was the No. 1 ranked punter according to ESPN, him being taken as the third punter could be one of those picks NFL fans look back on and wonder how he dropped as far as he did.

Now, punters aren’t often seen as the “must-have” position, but the Buffalo Bills front office has done a good job at filling both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. And with both of those sides covered, the only side left to “perfect” was special teams and punter was the biggest concern.

Matt Haack has been on the decline, so Araiza being picked up by the Buffalo Bills makes sense here. He’s an electric punter— if that’s possible— and he has an absolute boot of a foot attached to his monster leg.

Matt Araiza holds the FBS record for most punts over 60 yards, and he averaged a punt distance of 51.19 yards: a new single-season record.

Along with that, Araiza also punted a football 86 yards in a battle against Hawaii. If people didn’t know Araiza by this punt, they learned of him during the Combine.

All-in-all, Brandon Beane and the Buffalo Bills add a great player at pick No. 180 in Matt Araiza, the Punt God.
