The first team that Buffalo needs to watch closely is the Washington Commanders, who are set to pick 11th overall. They are coached by Ron Rivera, who worked closely with Sean McDermott closely when both were in Carolina when Rivera was head coach and McDermott was his defensive coordinator.

These two teams run similar defensive schemes and typically are looking for players with similar skill sets on the defensive side of the ball. One of the big needs both teams have is at cornerback and Washington could consider someone like Derek Stingley Jr., if he falls out of the Top 10, or Trent McDuffie, or even Andrew Booth Jr.

All three cornerbacks should be high on the Bills’ draft board and if Washington does draft one, it could start a run at the position with teams like Minnesota, Pittsburgh, and New England all potentially looking at cornerbacks in this year’s draft class.

Another position of need for Washington that is similar to Buffalo is wide receiver. Both teams could be looking to add at that position early in the 2022 NFL Draft with Washington in a position to likely get one of the Top 3.
