The Buffalo Bills have a good wide receiver group but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will stop them from adding more talent at the position. One player in the 2022 NFL Draft who certainly could do that is former University of Alabama wide receiver John Metchie III.

While his former teammate Jameson Williams is considered one of the best wide receivers in this year’s class, John Metchie III is a good wide receiver in his own right. According to Jordan Schultz, John Metchie III met with the Buffalo Bills last week.

In the past two seasons, the Alabama Crimson Tide have had some excellent wide receivers like Jaylen Waddle, Devonta Smith, and the previously mentioned Jameson Williams. Even competing for targets, John Metchie III has been productive and in 2020 had 916 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

This past season, he would finish with 96 receptions, 1,142 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns. He was finishing the year very well and had six receptions for 97 yards and a touchdown in the SEC Championship Game before suffering a torn ACL. The good news is that the former Alabama wide receiver expects to be cleared by June.

While he doesn’t have that great speed that some of the other wide receivers have in this year’s draft class, the scouting reports tend to point to a player that is well-rounded. On Bleacher Report, he is described as a player who is a good route runner that has the quickness and enough burst to make defenders miss to generate more yards after the catch.

A player like John Metchie III could make sense for the Buffalo Bills as a backup wide receiver that could play both outside or inside depending on the need. He is someone that Buffalo could target on Day 2 and address a need without using a first round pick.
