The Buffalo Bills reportedly are among a number of teams who had a visit or are expected to, with running back James Cook

The running back position is one that the Buffalo Bills may look to upgrade in the 2022 NFL Draft and they are reportedly among a number of teams interested in the former University of Georgia running back James Cook.

According to Tony Pauline with Pro Football Network, the Bills are among roughly half the league who have shown significant interest in Cook.

"His official visit list is extensive — almost half the teams in the league are on his travel schedule. Teams Cook has already been to see or has on his schedule the next week include the Buffalo Bills, New York Giants, Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos, New England Patriots, Tampa Bay Bucs, Cleveland Browns, and Baltimore Ravens. The New York Jets are not using an official top-30 visit on Cook but have shown a ton of interest in the versatile skill player.Expect Cook to come off the board somewhere in Round 2 later this month."

James Cook was a big part of the Bulldogs’ offense and part of a rotation at running back that helped them win a National Championship. He finished the year with 140 touches and over 1,000 yards from scrimmage and 11 total touchdowns.

James Cook could bring a different skill set to the Buffalo Bills’ backfield

While James Cook is the younger brother of Minnesota Vikings’ running back Dalvin Cook, he is a very different player. He likely would not be a high volume carry running back similar to Dalvin but rather is more of a pass catcher that can run routes out of the backfield but also split out wide to try and create mismatches against linebackers.

Last year, the Buffalo Bills had Matt Breida who was expected to play that role but saw limited snaps over the course of the season. The Bills appeared to replace Breida, who signed with the New York Giants, with Duke Johnson who signed a one-year deal with the team.

If the Bills were to draft Cook, who is expected to go in Round 2 according to Tony Pauline, the offensive coaching staff would likely have a specific role in mind. He would probably be a big part of the offense right away as a rookie if Buffalo used that high of a draft pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
