While the addition of Von Miller will likely have immediate impacts, the best move of the offseason to date wasn’t adding a new player but rather ensuring one of their franchise players remains in Western New York for the foreseeable future.

The four-year contract extension with Stefon Diggs was a move that was almost expected to happen at some point this offseason. However, it was surprising to hear the deal got done at this point but the timing ended up working out perfectly.

The reason is that as part of the contract extension, the Buffalo Bills were able to lower Diggs’ cap hit for this season and freed up over $6 million in cap space, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

That is the impact on this season but the extension obviously goes beyond this season as Diggs will remain in Buffalo through the 2027 season with this new contract. Since joining Buffalo in 2020, he and Josh Allen have become one of the best QB/WR duos in the NFL as Diggs led the league in receptions and receiving yards in 2020 and has made the Pro Bowl both seasons.

When considering some of the trades this offseason, like Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill, this is something that shouldn’t be taken for granted and the Buffalo Bills are fortunate to have both players under contract for the next few years.
