5. Buffalo Bills sign free agent O.J. Howard to a one-year deal

O.J. Howard was a former first round pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and while he never reached that potential, he has developed into a well-rounded tight end. The addition of Howard helps the Bills’ offense in a number of ways.

The biggest is that their offense can be a little more versatile this coming season and they have the option to run more two-tight end sets. By having Howard and Dawson Knox on the field at the same time, it will give offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey more options in his first year as the play-caller.

The addition of Howard now gives Buffalo two tight ends who not only will need to be accounted for when they run routes but also two tight ends who are above average in terms of run blocking. This can help keep defenses’ guessing on what the play call is when both are on the field.

The fact that the Bills signed Howard to only a one-year deal makes this an even better move and one of the best of the offseason.
