Another smart move that the Buffalo Bills have done over the years is put experienced quarterbacks on the roster to help Josh Allen on the sideline and in the position room. As a rookie, the Bills added Derek Anderson and then eventually Matt Barkley. They would also sign Davis Webb in 2019 and he would essentially become another coach to support Allen over the next few years.

Barkley remained with the team through the 2020 season before the Bills elected to sign Mitchell Trubisky to be the backup last offseason. However, this offseason Davis Webb left in free agency and signed with the New York Giants. The Bills would bring back Barkley to essentially replace Webb due in part to the good relationship he has with Josh Allen.

The addition of Matt Barkley won’t result in much in the box score but the support system the Buffalo Bills have put around Josh Allen should help him continue to play at a high level.
