Safety
Starters: Jordan Poyer, Micah Hyde
Backups: Jaquan Johnson, Damar Hamlin, Josh Thomas
The safety position is pretty straightforward because this is one position that didn’t change from last season and is unlikely to over the next few months. The Buffalo Bills once again will have Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde back, two players who have developed into one of the top safety duos in the NFL.
After Poyer and Hyde, the Bills have drafted a few players who have been the primary backups in Jaquan Johnson and Damar Hamlin. Johnson was a sixth round pick in 2019 and has appeared in 44 games over the past three seasons with his first career start coming this past season. He primarily has been a special teams contributor over that stretch.
As for Damar Hamlin, he was a sixth round pick this past NFL Draft and appeared in 14 games as a rookie. Similar to Johnson, he primarily has gotten on the field on special teams and played 35% of the snaps this past season.
