The Buffalo Bills reportedly have agreed to terms with running back Taiwan Jones who has been an important part of the team the past few seasons, according to his agent as well as Pro Football Talk. While Jones is listed as a running back, he is a key part of the special teams unit and this is where he makes his impact.

Jones has spent the past two seasons with Buffalo and during that stretch has played 61% of the special teams snaps in 2020 and 71% last year. He also was named special teams captain this past season for the Bills.

This will be Jones’ 12th season in the NFL after he started his career with the Raiders in 2011 when they selected him in the fourth round. He spent five seasons there where he developed into one of the top special teams players in the league and would sign with the Buffalo Bills for the first time in 2017 as a free agent.

He would play two seasons in Buffalo before leaving in free agency to join the Houston Texans, playing one season there before returning to Western New York.

Buffalo Bills able to bring back all their core special teams players

As Chris Brown with BuffaloBills.com tweeted, Jones along with Siran Neal were the team’s two primary gunners from last season.

Both players were set to be free agents this offseason but Buffalo was able to re-sign Siran Neal to a three-year deal last month and now bring back the player who served in that role on the other side.

These are the type of signings that usually go under the radar but Taiwan Jones has been an important part of the special teams’ success over the years. The fact he is returning for another season will certainly help and be a boost to this part of the Buffalo Bills.
