Pro Football Focus picks the Buffalo Bills’ addition of Tim Settle as one of the best under the radar moves of the offseason

The Buffalo Bills invested heavily in the defensive line this offseason and certainly, the addition of Von Miller will be the one move that generates the headlines. He is currently leading the NFL among active players in career sacks and is coming off an impressive run in the playoffs with the Los Angeles Rams that culminated in a Super Bowl victory.

However, one player that could fly under the radar now but play a big role once the regular season starts is Tim Settle. He is entering the fifth year in the NFL after spending four seasons with Washington but played a limited role due to the talent they have on their defensive line.

Recently, Pro Football Focus put together five free agent signings that are under the radar and started their list off with the Bills signing of Settle:

"Settle hasn’t been able to find the field consistently through the first four seasons of his NFL career, but a lot of that has to do with the names in front of him on the depth chart in Washington — Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne and Matt Ioannidis. Settle has impressive flashes as a pass-rusher on his tape for a player coming in at over 325 pounds and has earned PFF pass-rushing grades north of 72.0 in each of the last two seasons."

Tim Settle should have a bigger role with the Buffalo Bills

In the four seasons with Washington, only played 30% or more of the defensive snaps in two of those seasons and this past year was on the field for only 20%. Last year, Buffalo had four defensive tackles play 30% or more of the defensive snaps as they are known to rotate players on the defensive line regularly over the course of a game.

This coming season Settle is expected to be a big part of that rotation along with Ed Oliver, DaQuan Jones, and Jordan Phillips. One of the reasons that Settle should see the field more is that he can essentially play in any situation as he does a good job against the run but also has earned solid pass-rushing grades from Pro Football Focus.
