Buffalo Bills Trade Target: Fletcher Cox

Another position of need this offseason is at defensive tackle. The Buffalo Bills have three players set to be free agents and it remains to be seen if they also keep Star Lotulelei.

One name that has been mentioned as potentially being available in a trade is former Pro Bowl defensive tackle Fletcher Cox. According to Jordan Schultz, the Eagles have gotten a number of calls about trading for Cox with the Buffalo Bills being one of them.

There is no denying that putting Cox next to Ed Oliver on the defensive line for the Buffalo Bills would make this one of the best defensive tackle tandems in the NFL. He has been a consistent force on the Eagles defense with six straight Pro Bowl appearances from 2015 to 2020.

However, the same issues for a McCaffrey trade are also present here. Fletcher Cox has a cap hit of $14.9 million this year so the Buffalo Bills would have some work to do to create that cap space. In addition, Schultz notes in his tweet that the Eagles would take on $40 million in dead cap so they are asking for substantial compensation in a trade.

The Bills defense would certainly be better with Fletcher Cox but they are likely giving up too much for a player that could leave in free agency after this season and will be 32 years old this season.

Verdict: Sell
