After not being able to find the right trade partner, the Chicago Bears reportedly are releasing NT/DL Eddie Goldman, making him a candidate for the Buffalo Bills to acquire before the season in a much-needed run-stopping role.
Buffalo ranked sixth in most rushing touchdowns allowed last season (19), just trailing the Jacksonville Jaguars (22), Los Angeles Chargers (22), Houston Texans (25), and New York Jets (28). Respectfully, this isn’t the most elite company. Outside of Los Angeles, the remaining teams on that list were bottom-of-the-league teams.
Now, if the Buffalo Bills were to acquire Eddie Goldman, and if he returns to playing at a high level he’s played in before, the Eddie Goldman-Ed Oliver combo could rid them of so many rushing touchdowns against.
And if the Bills get stronger on defense while remaining as explosive on offense, they’re genuine threats in a very competitive AFC conference.
Now, as is the case with most free agents, bringing in Eddie Goldman could propose risk. As someone that’s watched him in Chicago his whole time there, there are some undesirable qualities of Goldman’s game.
We’ll get into all that, as well as the positives that Goldman brings to the table. And to start it off, let’s look at the positives of bringing Eddie Goldman to the Buffalo Bills.
