Mitchell Trubisky Landing Spot No. 3: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
This move might seem odd, but for a team that just lost Tom Brady, in what seemed to be an unexpected manner, it could make sense for Mitchell Trubisky to go from the Buffalo Bills to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
While on the surface it might not seem likely, the Buccaneers don’t really seem to have a plan at quarterback. Not only that, but the NFC South is a very winnable division. The Falcons, Panthers, and Saints are nowhere near as likely to make the playoffs as the Bucs are, but that all depends on which team makes a true run at the quarterback position.
As of right now, the Buccaneers only have Tom Brady (retired) and Kyle Trask on their checkbooks.
And as of right now, Kyle Trask hasn’t played outside of preseason, and to be honest, preseason might’ve shown the Buccs all they needed to know.
Kyle Trask Preseason Stats
Preseason Week 1 @ Houston: 12/14 (85.7% completion), 146 yards, 1 TD, 0 INTs
Preseason Week 2 vs Tennessee: 13/26 (50% completion), 131 yards, 0 TDs, 2 INTs
Preseason Week 3 vs Cincinnati: 4/15 (26.6% completion), 35 yards, 0 TDs, 0 INTs
*Career Stats: 29/55 (52.7% completion); 312 yards; 1 TD; 2 INTs
So, as shown by these stats, Trask might not be the guy. And to be fair to Kyle Trask, stats definitely aren’t the end all be all, but these stats are pretty indicative of his performance.
The Bucs would be playing it somewhat safe by getting a guy like Mitchell Trubisky, but I’d argue that Trubisky is exactly what a team wants when bridging between quarterbacks.
That, and the roster is already pretty solid in Tampa Bay, as Mike Evans and Chris Godwin will both be there still, giving Trubisky a nice pair of weapons. If I were the Buccaneers, I’d at least entertain the idea of bringing Mitchell Trubisky in prior to the 2022-23 season.
With three teams unveiled, which team is the fourth and final team that could land Mitchell Trubisky in free agency?
