Buffalo Bills announce they have signed wide receiver Jake Kumerow to a one-year deal

This week the focus for the Buffalo Bills seemed to be getting the salary cap in a good spot heading into free agency next week. On Tuesday, they released A.J. Klein and then one day later released offensive lineman Jon Feliciano.

However, on Thursday the Buffalo Bills were able to bring back a player who was set to be a free agent and announced they agreed to a one-year deal with wide receiver Jake Kumerow.

He spent his first two years in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers but was released prior to the 2020 season. At the time, it didn’t seem like a big move but a year later it was still being discussed and supposedly was one of the final straws for Aaron Rodgers last offseason.

Jake Kumerow is a key part of the Buffalo Bills’ special teams

While Kumerow is listed as a wide receiver, he contributes the most on special teams. The past two years, he has played 53% in 2020 and 69% in 2021 of the special teams’ snaps.

However, the wide receiver position could be going through changes this offseason with Emmanuel Sanders and Isaiah McKenzie set to be free agents and Cole Beasley requesting a trade.

At the end of last season, the Bills had a number of players miss games due to injuries and being on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. This opened the door for Kumerow to play more on offense with double digit snaps.

If the Buffalo Bills do lose some of their wide receivers from last year, bringing back a player like Jake Kumerow who knows the offense, as well as someone who contributes on special teams, is a good move for this team.
