Buffalo Bills Position of Need: Quarterback

While there are no concerns about who the starting quarterback is, there are plenty of question marks after Josh Allen. The former first round pick is the only quarterback currently under contract with Mitchell Trubisky set to be a free agent after only a one-year deal with Buffalo and Davis Webb on the practice squad.

The Bills also lost Jake Fromm during the season, who was signed off their practice squad by the New York Giants.

Last year, Buffalo decided to go the veteran route at the backup position and signed Trubisky. It makes sense to have an experienced player behind Allen if the need ever arose for them to step under center.

However, another route they could take is drafting a quarterback in the mid to late rounds that can develop behind Josh Allen. This could create value for Buffalo as in a few years, if that rookie looks good in preseason, they could be traded for draft picks.

In the end, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Buffalo Bills go both routes with a veteran as the backup while also drafting a quarterback who can develop but wouldn’t be forced to step onto the field if Josh Allen were to miss time.
