The Buffalo Bills are going to be looking to improve their roster after coming up short for the second year in a row against the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs. However, this may not mean just going after the top free agents and offering big contracts.

Last week, general manager Brandon Beane met with the media after the Bills’ overtime loss in the AFC Divisional Round and gave a brief glimpse into what the offseason might look like and the plan for improving the roster:

"“We’ll still have to make some moves but I wouldn’t see us being like big spenders or anything like that. But we’ll definitely look to fill some spots from the outside as well as retain some of our guys”, Beane said."

The Buffalo Bills approach to the offseason could look very similar to what the front office did last year in terms of free agency. They were limited with the salary cap going down but were able to bring back Matt Milano, Jon Feliciano, and Daryl Williams while also adding some veteran players like Emmanuel Sanders.

Buffalo Bills needs who could be determined by who they re-sign

The needs this year could hinge on how many, and who, the Bills are able to bring back in terms of their own free agents. They have some key players like Levi Wallace and Harrison Phillips set to be free agents that they will likely prioritize. However, there are a few positions that could also lose a lot of their depth like along the defensive line with five other players (Jerry Hughes, Mario Addison, Efe Obada, Vernon Butler, and Justin Zimmer) along with Phillips all set to be free agents.

The Buffalo Bills also have two wide receivers, Emmanuel Sanders and Isaiah McKenzie, set to be free agents so the wide receiver position is another one that could be a need depending on who, if any, they re-sign.

The Buffalo Bills with Brandon Beane as general manager have made it a point to build through the NFL Draft. This is unlikely to change this year and while they won’t be big spenders, they almost certainly will add one or two impact free agents this offseason as they have done in past years.
