Gabriel Davis joins Eric Moulds among Buffalo Bills WRs holding playoff records
On Sunday night, Gabriel Davis would put his name in the record books with his four touchdown performance against the Kansas City Chiefs, which was the most ever in a single playoff game. However, he is not the only Buffalo Bills’ wide receiver to hold a playoff record for wide receivers.
In 1999, wide receiver Eric Moulds had a record-setting game where he had nine receptions, 240 receiving yards, and one touchdown. The receiving yards are the most ever in a playoff game with T.Y. Hilton being the last player who came close to breaking it in 2014 when he had 224 yards with the Indianapolis Colts.
Buffalo Bills would also lose this playoff game
Amazingly, in a game where Eric Moulds would set the NFL record the Buffalo Bills would also come up short as they lost to the Miami Dolphins by a final score of 24-17. The Bills and Dolphins were tied at 14 going into the fourth quarter but Miami would pull away with 10 straight points on an Olindo Mare field goal and Dan Marino touchdown pass to Lamar Miller.
The Buffalo Bills would add a field goal in the final minutes to make it a one-score game and even recover the onside kick. They would march down the field but a fumble by Doug Flutie at the five-yard line would end any comeback opportunity.
As for Eric Moulds, he got off to a fast start in this game with a 65-yard reception on the first play of the game but would fumble the ball after the catch. He would finish the first half with 102 receiving yards after a 37-yard reception in the second quarter.
It was in the second half he didn’t slow down and would finish with 138 receiving yards and one touchdown in the final two quarters.
The Buffalo Bills have been fortunate to have some great wide receivers over the years, like Hall of Famers Andre Reed and James Lofton. They have another one who is off to a great start in Stefon Diggs but Eric Moulds also was an exceptional wide receiver and should be in the discussion when talking about the great receivers with this franchise.
