First matchup in the playoffs in nearly 60 years

While the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots play at least twice a year due to the two teams being in the AFC East, they have not met in the playoffs in the modern NFL era.

The only time they have met in the playoffs was back in 1963 when both teams were a part of the AFL when they were the Boston Patriots. The Bills lost that game by a final score of 26-8 with Cookie Gilchrist rushing for only seven yards on eight carries.

While both teams have had runs in the playoffs, it has been a rarity that both teams have been good at the same time. That changed this year with Buffalo leading the division for most of the first part of the season but New England had a long win streak in the middle of the season that helped them surpass the Bills briefly.

The Bills would finish the season with a four-game win streak that helped them move back into the division lead and ultimately win it for the second year in a row.
