Round 3, Pick 89: Travis Jones, IDL (UConn)
After two picks on the offensive side of the ball, the Buffalo Bills strengthen their defensive line with defensive tackle Travis Jones. In the past few years, general managers Brandon Beane has used a number of picks on the defensive line but the focus has been on the edge at the defensive end.
Travis Jones is a big defensive tackle that can clog up running lanes and anchor a line in the NFL. This is what the Buffalo Bills could need with Star Lotulelei getting towards the end of his career and Harrison Phillips a free agent, although it would make sense for Buffalo to try and bring him back.
Even if they are able to re-sign Phillips, the coaching staff rotates the players on the line pretty frequently and Jones could be a good player to pair with Phillps. However, just highlighting his play against the run would limit what Jones would bring. He has good quickness for his size at 6’5″ and 333 pounds and has eight sacks in his last two full seasons at UConn.
