4. Drafting Spencer Brown in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft
At the time of the selection, it seemed like Spencer Brown was a player that could contribute down the road and be a long-term answer at right tackle. He was a player who had great physical attributes but may need time getting up to speed to the NFL level of play.
However, the learning curve for the former University of Northern Iowa tackle wasn’t as steep. He impressed the coaching staff and became the starter in Week 4 against the Houston Texans.
He has played well this year and there is no question that the offensive line’s performance improves when he is on the field. This isn’t to say there haven’t been challenges and he has had some down games, like Week 15 against the Carolina Panthers. This was a game though where he was asked to move from right to left tackle in place of Dion Dawkins and shouldn’t be too much of a concern.
This season, Spencer Brown has shown enough that he has validated the belief that he is a long-term answer at right tackle and should solidify that position for years to come.
