Ike Boettger

Prior to Week 16, Ike Boettger was one player that the Buffalo Bills should have absolutely been interested in re-signing. He originally joined the Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2018 and after a brief stop with the Kansas City Chiefs at the start of the 2018 season, he returned to Buffalo and has been with the team since.

He has been a player that has provided good depth over the years. However, in the second half of this season, as well as the second half last season, Boettger has shown he could be more than that and could be a starter at guard.

The reason that there is now some uncertainty is due to the fact that Boettger unfortunately suffered a torn Achilles this past weekend against the Patriots. The question is what a timeline might look like and Kyle Trimble at BuffaloRumblings provided a detailed look at the injury and wrote it takes roughly just under nine months to return.

This would align with Boettger being ready at the start of the 2022 season but could limit his ability to compete for a starting spot. At the very least, he has shown enough to return as a depth player and hopefully can return sooner to compete for a starting job.
