Buffalo Bills win the AFC East for the second straight year

At about the midpoint of the season, it looked like the Buffalo Bills were going to coast to another AFC East division title. However, in the past few weeks, that has all changed and the Patriots have surpassed the Bills in the division standings.

The good news for the Buffalo Bills is that they essentially control their own destiny since they have two games left on the schedule against the Patriots. If the Bills win both of those games, they will be in a great position to secure the AFC East for a second straight year.

However, even if they split with the Patriots, which seems like the more likely scenario, they have winnable games against the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, and New York Jets. If the Bills finish the year 4-2 and the Patriots finish 3-2, with losses to Buffalo and Indianapolis, both teams would finish 11-6.

The Bills in this scenario would end up holding the tiebreaker with a 5-1 division record compared to the Patriots’ 4-2 record. This would be enough to secure the AFC East for a second straight year and guarantee at least one home playoff game.
