This next player is a bit of a long shot but if the Buffalo Bills want cornerbacks that know the system, outside of Worley, E.J. Gaines may be the next best option. The concern is that Gaines hasn’t played a regular season game since Week 9 of the 2019 season as a member of the Cleveland Browns.

Gaines started his career with the Rams and did spend the 2017 season with the Buffalo Bills after they traded for him in the Sammy Watkins trade. That season would be one of Gaines’ best in his career and he joined the Browns as a free agent ahead of the 2018 season.

He would return to Buffalo for the 2019 and 2020 season but in 2019 would be placed on season-ending injured reserve and then this past season opted out due to the pandemic. The Bills released him early this past offseason.

E.J. Gaines is a talented cornerback but has struggled to stay healthy as he has never played a full 16 game schedule in any of his four seasons on an active roster. Now that he is three years removed from his last regular season game, it remains to be seen what shape he is in. However, he does know the defensive scheme, and the learning curve would not be as steep.
