Third Down Defense

Another big failure on the part of the defense this week was their third down defense and their inability to get off the field. This another area the Bills have done a good job for the most part this season but against the Colts they didn’t have an answer as the Colts were able to convert eight of their 12 third down attempts in Week 11.

One of the reasons was that the Buffalo Bills weren’t able to win on first and second down that allowed the Colts to be in manageable situations on third down that helped them keep their drives alive. The Buffalo Bills also didn’t do themselves any favors in terms of penalties and the Colts had four first downs from penalties in Week 11.

There was two penalties in particular where the Buffalo Bills got the stop on third down but the Colts saw their drives extended with penalties with Mario Addison’s roughing the passer in the first half and Taron Johnson called for holding on a play that Ed Oliver sacked Carson Wentz.
